Drives and dirt; Timmy always on, SMS Earthdrive, Wampler Tummus for moderate overdrive, heavier overdrive duties by MXR Distortion Plus (1977) and MXR Series 2000 Distortion (1982), RAT distortion circuit on Beigel ‘Boostron 3’ stacked with MXR 2000 on ‘Tons of Steel’ *Chuck Powers guitar was my first custom-built in 1991 and the pickups were changed to Dual-Sounds from the original Super IIs to accomodate Garcia’s pickup choices of the years 1979-1982 ( a little more mid-range bite) My Phiga Tiger ( Phil Gawen) has Super IIs in the middle and bridge to accomodate 1983-1989 performances . The Super IIs that went in Jerry’s guitars from 1983 forward favored more upper frequency presence.
